• Cannabis is also known as marijuana, weed, pot, maryjane, ganja and a variety of other
terms.
• The plant contains a number of psychoactive chemicals including, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in its leaves, buds and flowers.
• It is the most commonly used illicit drug in the country with forty-two percent of American adults reporting they have used it.
• Despite the fact marijuana is less harmful then most other drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, more people are arrested for marijuana possession than any other drug.
• Over 800,000 people will be arrested for possession of cannabis this year. Penalties will vary from a simple fine to as long as a year in prison and a $1,000.00 fine depending on where you live.
• More than 33% of American's live in one of the 16 state where cannabis is available as medicine.
• Fourteen (14) states have recalibrated sentencing for cannabis possession making it a ticket-only offense.
